OK, OK, OK! Let’s admit it this is hot. As the country western song goes, “hotter than a two dollar pistol. And, we ain’t seen nothing yet. It has for most of the week been about one-hundred and twenty degrees. Along with that, the wind has been creating a convection factor, as in convection oven. I don’t know what the opposite of “wind chill factor” is, but I’m going to call it the “convection factor”. The convection factor has pushed the heat over the top. “Hotter than a two dollar pistol.”
But, the body is an amazing machine. As each day goes by we adjust to the heat just a little more than the day before. We acclimatize a bit at a time, to the point that you can actually become accustomed to one hundred and twenty degree heat. Our physical body adjusts to the external circumstances of our life.
Our emotional and spiritual system adjusts in like manner. God does not take us through August heat without first bringing us through a time of preparation. God does not drop us off in the desert, but gently leads us to the point where we can handle it. The heat of your life right now, is it “hotter than a two dollar pistol?” If it is take heart. This day did not come upon you suddenly. God has been preparing you to stand in the heat of the day since your birth.
In God’s economy all things are built upon the preceding. Strength is honed from the experiences of the past and fashioned together to create a structure that can stand up to the blast furnace of life. This strength and survivability God has created in you. You can trust in this strength above all else because the foundation it rests upon is sure and true. The bible says, “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.” Your life is built on the foundation of Christ. You can take the heat.
If life is “hotter than a two dollar pistol” right now, take heart. You are not standing in the heat of the day by accident. You are there because God is purifying you, or strengthening you, or teaching you, or using you for the sake of others. Stand fast, be strong, drink from the waters of life and know, soon you will once again feel the coolness of the morning. God is with you.
